Safety:

GENERAL: Safety is always our top priority. During camp, all participants and coaches will wear Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs), and campers will be instructed on how to move equipment safely and take care of their bodies during physical activities. Coaches will drive motorized safety boats, called launches, that are equipped with safety supplies such as additional flotation devices, safety blankets, and first aid kits. The strain of the physical activity will be easy to moderate, and each participant will be coached at the level appropriate for them. We know that learning new things can be scary, and we're here to help and make sure it's fun for everyone.

WEATHER: Summer can be a tricky time in Seattle! Wind and boat traffic can be unpredictable! Please be advised we may need to cancel, postpone, or alter the Camp Lucy session if weather conditions disrupt our ability to transport athletes safely to camp, run a safe camp session, or provide a positive experience. In the event that we do cancel, ample notice will be given.

COVID: We understand that COVID is a continuously developing risk to our community and that our Camp Lucy participants fall into an age category that has limited access to vaccines. We require masks to be worn throughout camp while on land, with the exception of eating/drinking and occasional photographs. However, mask-wearing is not required while in the boat as it can pose a risk to the athlete in the event of a water emergency. As a rowing organization, we have monitored the risk of COVID transmission in outdoor non-contact sports, and are glad to say that the risk of transmission is considerably low. In the event that COVID rates continue to suggest that group gatherings should be highly discouraged, we will cancel the Camp Lucy Summer Session. In such circumstances, the decision will be communicated with ample notice.
