Philharmonia's final masterworks concert of the season is a celebration of all things Mozart! The program opens with our first Mozart Symphony in over 10 years: No. 35, the "Haffner." Sandra Wright Shen, winner of the Hilton Head Intl. Piano Competition and Intl. Piano Competition of France, joins the orchestra for Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major, a work inspired by Mozart's model of a "genuine concerto" that puts the soloist's virtuosity front and center. The program closes with a salute by Tchaikovsky, one of Mozart's most ardent admirers: the Orchestral Suite No. 4, "Mozartiana."
PROGRAM:
W.A. Mozart – Symphony No. 35 in D major, K. 385 "Haffner"
Maurice Ravel – Piano Concerto in G major, M. 83
P.I. Tchaikovsky – Suite No. 4 in G major, Op. 61 "Mozartiana"
