Sheep shearing, one of the showier examples of farming life at Bellevue's Kelsey Creek Park, takes center stage Saturday, April 26. Watch as we give the sheep their yearly haircut, participate in hands-on activities with wool from our sheep, and watch fiber demonstrations by Northwest Regional Spinners Association. For even more fun, go on a pony ride, take part in hands-on history activities by the Eastside Heritage Center, meet some of the Kelsey Creek 4-H Critters, ride on a tractor-pulled wagon ride, and enjoy food from local food trucks.

The shearing of the sheep is a traditional farm practice to gather wool for a variety of textiles. Each sheep produces from six to 10 pounds of wool each year. Called "Wild'n'Woolly" for a few years, the sheep shearing event originated in the early '90s, as the crowds coming each spring to watch the sheep being shorn of their winter coats kept growing.
